Downtown Strategic Plan
In 2011, in an effort to advance Downtown Kenosha, WI revitalization efforts, the City of Kenosha and Kenosha Area Business Alliance engaged The Lakota Group, a well-respected urban planning and design firm to develop a strategic development plan - a blueprint for the future of our Downtown.
With support from a steering committee of community leaders, an extensive research and planning process ensued, which involved significant discussion and dialogue with key stakeholders and the community. The result was the creation of the Downtown Strategic Development Plan, which provides a clear and concise blueprint for Downtown revitalization. This plan was completed in August 2012 and formally adopted by the City of Kenosha Common Council in October of the same year.
The plan recommends several core development strategies or initiatives to be pursued, including:
Zoning improvements/modernization to support key elements of the plan
- More aggressive efforts to address vacant properties and buildings
- Establishment of a Downtown Management Organization
- Expansion of the streetcar system
