Located at 5611 Sixth Avenue in the heart of Downtown Kenosha since 2004, Wine Knot Bar & Bistro holds the distinction of being Kenosha’s first and only wine bar. Step inside, and the wine-related décor will quickly clue you in to what type of place you are at! You needn’t worry about a dress code, as “No matter how you come, you’re going to feel comfortable,” says Brian Haberski, General Manager and Executive Chef at Wine Knot. In the summer, it’s apparent Lake Michigan is only blocks away as shorts and tank tops are frequented by their customers. They also see people in suits and dresses on their first dates. More than a wine bar, Wine Knot is also a restaurant. An “American bistro with an International flare” is how the menu can be described.
Brian says they “go anywhere” with the food, with many different nationalities and ethnicities reflected in the menu. That menu is updated twice a year – there’s a fall/winter edition, and a spring/summer one. Some favorites can never be taken off the menu including the Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut, which Brian believes is one of the first menu items he brought with him when he joined the business shortly after it opened. Other favorites include the Filet Mignon and Hickory Smoked Cheddar Burger. All three items can usually be found on the Big Plates menu, which consists of full entrees. The Little Plates menu consists of appetizers.
The wine bar features a large variety of wines. All told, 50 different wines are available by the glass. Wine flights are very popular. The flights are three 3-ounce pours. There are red flights and white flights, as well as a reserve flights. Brian assures that the staff is very versed on the wines, and can assist customers in pairing their meal with a wine of their liking.
A lot of the wines come from California, as Brian prefers New World vs. Old World wines. In addition to wine, it is a full service bar with cocktails, tap and bottled beers, and martinis. Pumpkin Pie Seasonal is one of their most famous cocktails. Specials are offered on various weeknights.
Brian loves that Wine Knot is downtown. He says it’s a great atmosphere: “I think this is the best spot in Kenosha”. When you’re in Downtown Kenosha, stop on by for a wine flight or dinner and say “Hi”!
