The home of Kenosha’s original wood-burning oven is right downtown at Mangia Wine Bar. This authentic Italian restaurant first opened its doors in 1988 with only nine tables and has since expanded with their most recent renovation being completed in 2014. From humble beginnings, Mangia has grown to house 35 tables, a full bar, and TVs. The restaurant takes pride in using locally-sourced ingredients to create their dishes. This “farm to table” practice is surging in popularity due to the freshness and healthful nature associated with using locally-sourced ingredients. Because many of Mangia’s ingredients come from local farms, their menu changes with the seasons.

The name of one of Mangia’s co-owners might ring a bell if you are a follower of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters”. Co-owner Tony Mantuano was one of the champions on season two of the popular television show. Tony Mantuano is the chef at Spiagga, a four-star Italian restaurant, in Chicago, but he also oversees the menu and operations at Mangia. Most recently, the well-known chef prepared a lunch for Vice President Joe Biden and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.

Mangia meatballsThose who have never been to Mangia can expect a cozy fine dining environment with Italian flair. It’s the perfect place for a casual dinner or a special night out! Manager Tre Mantuano says that Mangia’s pizzas are perfect for first timers and their wine list offers a wide variety of fine wines. Other popular dishes include: Tagliatelle Della Nonna, Faroe Isle Salmon, and Pepper Crusted New York Strip. Mangia hosts a wide variety of events such as their annual Masters of the Grill, Fall Harvest Fest, and cooking classes (these classes fill up quickly!) a few times a year. In addition to their regular dinner hours, Mangia also offers a Sunday Brunch featuring a Bloody Mary bar. Manager Tre said “We love our downtown Kenosha location because it’s like a big Italian family. The local business owners are close and won’t hesitate to help someone out”.
